THIS IS NOT RETRO SAYS…
If you’re a fan of electronic music, then just imagine how exciting it would be to hear that VINCE CLARKE (DEPECHE MODE, YAZOO, ERASURE) and MARTYN WARE (THE HUMAN LEAGUE, BEF, HEAVEN 17) were working together. Then imagine hearing that the duo have twelve years of collaboration under their belts and have decided to release a 10-CD boxset featuring that material… it’s like some sort of amazing electro dream isn’t it?
Well, we are delighted to report that it’s not a dream and that is exactly what has happened. Vince Clarke and Martyn Ware have been working together for over a decade as THE ILLUSTRIOUS COMPANY and in that time they’ve released just two albums, 1999’s PRETENTIOUS and 2001’s SPECTRUM PURSUIT VEHICLE. Now they have announced a deluxe 10-CD boxset which contains both those albums plus a further eight CDs of previously unreleased material.
Not only that but the box – which is a beautifully designed art object in its own right – is a LIMITED EDITION of 1000 and each copy is individually NUMBERED AND SIGNED by Vince Clarke and Martyn Ware.
The music is electronic, experimental and largely ambient but you can hear some extracts for yourself below, plus there’s a downloadable PODCAST that features both Vince Clarke and Martyn Ware talking about their collaborations and about the boxset…

Yes. Not only have Vince Clarke and Martyn Ware made a podcast in which they discuss their collaboration and the release of the boxset, but they have also given This Is Not Retro an exclusive audio stream which features one of the tracks from the release with an audio commentary from Martyn Ware.
There’s also a great WEBSITE for the release that features audio and video extracts plus pictures and all sorts of other nice things!
