Hailed as something of a return to form, ‘Wrecking Ball’ certainly sees Springsteen treading the same bombastic rock style as some of his most celebrated moments, but somehow it feels like maybe his heart isn’t quite in it any more. There’s some great tunes – single ‘We Take Care of Our Own’, with its echoes of ‘Born in The USA’ is testament enough of that – but the sentiment feels a bit false and the trademark Springsteen passion rings somewhat hollow. I bet the songs will hold up well live though!
