THIS IS NOT RETRO SAYS…
In a recent interview Bob Geldof mentioned that if it hadn’t been for his detour into Live Aid and all his subsequent humanitarian work his musical career could have run a similar path to his early peers Sting and Paul Weller. That may be true, but if he had travelled that path then he wouldn’t be playing this particular intimate show for this small but enthusiastic audience, and he probably wouldn’t be asking members of the crowd to shout out the names of the tracks they wanted him to play, and that would have been a shame.
Despite struggling with a sore throat, Geldof and band were on fine form for this show which not only revolved around songs from the recent album ‘How To Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell’, but also pulled key tracks from his backlist as well as a few choice Boomtown Rats numbers.
Although every track went down well with this dedicated, supportive audience highlights had to include the excellent recent single ‘Silly Pretty Thing’, ‘One For Me’ from 2001’s rather darker ‘Sex, Age & Death’ and a rousing version of ‘Rat Trap’.

Who’d want to be a Sting or a Paul Weller when you can have this much fun being Bob Geldof? 🙂
