The NME’s classic indie compilation ‘C86’ will be reissued with two additional CDs of bonus material on June 9th. The original 22-track compilation – which featured THE PASTELS, PRIMAL SCREAM and THE MIGHTY LEMON DROPS among others – was released via the NME’s mail-order cassette service before being released in vinyl and cassette edition by Rough Trade in 1986.
This expanded edition adds another 50 tracks to the release, all of which were originally released between mid-1985 and mid-1986 and all of which ‘could conceivably have been on the original ‘C86′ package’ and adds a whole new set of bands to the release including THE JESUS & MARY CHAIN, THE PRIMITIVES, THAT PETROL EMOTION, HAPPY MONDAYS and THE BLUE AEROPLANES.
As with the original album the release will coincide with a celebratory show in London, this time at Club 229 on June 14th featuring band including THE WEDDING PRESENT, A WITNESS, THE WOLFHOUNDS, THE MEMBRANES, YEAH YEAH NOH, THE BAND OF HOLY JOY and THE CLAIM.
